ISES North Jersey; Design Star Event!

On February 6th, 2013 I attended the ISES North Jersey, Design Star Event at Classic Party Rentals warehouse in Secaucus, NJ.  The event was jam packed with glitz, glitter, and glam and welcomed guests with a red carpet at their feet.  With the night being called “Style, Sass, and Swag”, it was impossible for the guests not to feel like Hollywood VIP.  The everyday work warehouse was transformed into a space filled with intricate table setting designs to fit various themes, decorated glamorously.  The lighting in the room was incredible, as it featured many different, creative colors and effects.  The Classic Party Rental team and the designers created two special rooms; Hollywood and Bollywood.  The Hollywood room had an old fashioned feel as the walls were washed white, with an old holly wood movie projected directly onto the drapery.  The Bollywood room was filled with pillows, draping, and gave off an exotic, mystical vibe to guests. These were just a couple of the design examples that were put together to impress ISES attendees like myself.

After an hour or so of mingling, the staff served cocktail style dinner, dessert, and wine to all of the guests.  The highlight of the night was the team tabletop competition for all attendees.  Guests were placed into teams of about ten people and had to scavenge the warehouse for props and decorations to create the best, most uniquely designed table possible.  Each team was given one of the warehouse's staff members as a guide to assist them in locating the desired pieces.  Many celebrities were in attendance to judge the competition; Teresa Giudice from the Real Housewives of New Jersey came and promoted her new wine Faballini.  Miles Dallas, from MBD Designs, spoke of designs and his passion as he was a guest speaker for the event, along with Lawrence “LT” Thompson, from the hit television show ‘Pregnant in Heels’.  Seated with other designers, the panel watched as attendees raced around the warehouse, desperately trading and collecting random items needed to create their tables.

This ISES North Jersey event gave an excellent presentation on the basic elements and essentials of design.  It allowed guests the opportunity to mingle, network, and talk design with others in the field.  I enjoyed the opportunity to view the incredible design work and engage in conversation with others in the industry who appreciate the art of design.  I had a blast representing SCE at the ISES North Jersey event and am looking forward to upcoming seminars!
