Abby & John sat with me over a year away from their wedding celebration. During that little talk, we got to know each other a bit, had some laughs, and talked about their vision. As we did, I really got a good idea of what this event was all about: two beautiful people bringing over 200 of their closest friends and family together to have a non-stop party! They locked me in on the spot. And I couldn’t be my excited!
Abby Marshall and John Polizzi exchanged vows at the Clubhouse at Galloping Hill Golf Course on a gorgeous day in August 2015. Their Ceremony was formal with touches of personality that made it “them.” Their music came by way of friends playing the guitar and singing, as the Abby made her way down the aisle to her Groom.
Their guests enjoyed a fun, laid-back Cocktail Hour playlist I especially created for them: traditional crooner favorites; fun, retro songs; and contemporary acoustics to connect with everyone and really set the mood for the celebration.
When the beautiful ballroom was revealed, our lightscaping created an envelope of color surrounding the guests, as Intelligent Lighting washed the dance floor like the centerpiece it would become! I staged 4 Intelligent fixtures on opposite sides, which allowed me to perfectly spotlight the entranceway for their Grand Introductions. It also gave Abby & John a 360-degree spotlight for their First Dance. Once the dance floor picked up, Intelligent Lighting also give the ballroom visual energy that supports the soundtrack! This is critical to ambiance, as well as looking fantastic in photos.
I used Dynamic Uplighting to give the walls life, slowly scrolling through colors right from the beginning of the celebration. Dynamic Uplighting (as opposed to Static, or one-color) allows me to tie them into the Intelligent Lighting, creating a complete palette of color and energy. Bringing the “walls into the dance floor”, as in this case, is another great tool for creating amazing energy throughout your celebration! I love it!
And ENERGY?! Their introductions had the Bridal Party coming out to a Heavy Metal 80s soundtrack, including Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Kiss, and more! Talk about setting the bar! FYI- Abby & John came in to Smashing Pumpkins, straight into a “Dirty Dancing”-style lift!
Snapshot PhotoBooths was also part of their customized package. Photo Booths are so popular nowadays because they’re so much fun! I personally feel they really add another component to the entertainment. The guests really enjoyed going through the booth, taking silly pictures (even sillier after a couple of hours of an Open Bar!), and signing the Photo Guest Book which I handed to the Newlyweds at the end of the night. What a great souvenir!
Although they gave me some requests, the music programming was primarily open format, giving me plenty of latitude to have some fun! Everything from The Beatles to the 90s to the Jersey Shore made the list! I had a blast with it!
One of my favorite moments came when our “secret” was revealed. Abby’s Dad was to play a song on the guitar; this part was pretty expected. What no one expected was for Abby to walk up as he began to play, and sing “You Are the Best Thing” to her husband.
(you’ll see a clip of this in the video recap below!)
Abby and I coordinated this unbeknownst to anyone. I absolutely love creating little moments like this. It’s these little touches that make every celebration unique and absolutely personal.
Capturing the entire event was Jeff Tisman of Jeff Tisman Photography. He’s an incredible professional to work with, both from my perspective and yours! His vision is absolutely unique and captures stunning photographs. He even won an award for one of the shots from this very wedding! (Awarded by Abstract Canvas for images that show “amazing composition and out-of-the-box thinking”)
I had an amazing time celebrating with these two! And their guests did not disappoint. Take a peek at the highlights below. (and stay past the credits!)
Thanks so much to you both, Abby & John, and your families, for allowing me the opportunity to celebrate with you. Thanks to Jeff Tisman Photography for being accommodating and a consummate professional. And thanks to Jennifer Forshee-Mazzuca, Director of Catering at Galloping Hill! She’s incredibly helpful, hands on, and fun!
